We go home with Vitalic Noise label artist, Taste Nasa to catch-up on life, chat studio time and New Zealand's burgeoning love for Mexican food.
What have you been up to since the EP release?
Most my minutes have been occupied with writing and/or working on music for/with other artist while I regroup the brainwaves and discover where the next Taste Nasa music will bring me.
What are the main differences between LA and NZ for you?
Mainly taco's, LA has better taco’s. Mexican food is quite on trend in NZ so it’s too pricey which supplies you with a guilt you shouldn’t have to bare whilst eating a taco. (The night sky is better in NZ though)
What headspace are you in right now and how is that affecting your current musical direction, if any?
Being back in NZ and reconnecting with people you left behind can be cause for some buzzy emotions. I’m still in the process of completing production work I brought back from LA but i’m looking forward to seeing how it all resonates with the music when the time comes. My friends here will have a big influence on me because they’re all so sick!
You have an eclectic style and direction for Taste Nasa. Is that always evolving and what can we expect to see next?
Taste Nasa songs are always just fished out of the song puddle, I don’t really like to consciously think up what the musics going to sound like as it tends to lead to battles between your conscious thoughts and your natural instincts. But i’m trying to feed my brain with lot’s of high class/high value products (i.e. Ciara)
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and what would you do there?
Tokyo - Drift
What part of the day do you look forward to the most?
I quite like a good wee break, check up on Instagram. Though traveling home from the studio can be quite a reward for myself.
How do you spend a night off from the studio?
Lol, night off. Nah, since being back i’ve enjoyed sitting down with my parents and watching cruddy TV shows.
Favourite NZ artist of the moment that we should be listening to?
Such a tough one because there’s so much mean shit going on here. However the first who pops to mind is Laptop Speakers, Lo Fi dance music, a very bright spark on the NZ music scene.
